In 1976 a group of active, civic-minded individuals
in the Bridgeport area came together to create a community health
center dedicated to the health of their neighborhood. With determination,
and federal and city funding, they opened a health center just
one year later. Bridgeport Community Health Center has continued
to grow with a new main site and numerous satellite clinics.
Bridgeport Community Health Center is a leading
provider of comprehensive integrated health and human services
in Bridgeport, Stratford
and Stamford. The Center provides comprehensive outpatient
health care for the entire family from prenatal through geriatric
services.
All Health Center physicians are on staff at Bridgeport
and Stamford Hospitals. Trained counselors can help you if
you have family,
substance abuse, mental health or other concerns. We are
glad to assist you in completing applications for SAGA, Medicaid
or other programs.
All Bridgeport Community Health Center
physicians have staff privileges at Bridgeport Hospital.
The Center is actively involved in the health care community
with Medical Director Dr. Richard Torres serving as Assistant
Clinical Professor at Yale University School of Medicine
and Nursing and Fairfield University. Our staff comprises
internal
medicine physicians, pediatricians, physician assistants,
a certified nurse midwife, psychologists, social workers,
dentists
and dental
hygienists who provide comprehensive health care.
Bridgeport Community Health Center provides health care
to more than 12,000 people. Serving a predominantly Latino
population,
the Center focuses on culturally appropriate care for a
population that would otherwise have difficulty accessing
the health
care system. The patient population at Bridgeport Community
Health
Center is 80% Latino, 15% Black or African-American and
5% White
or other.
Among the special services offered by Bridgeport
Community Health Center are a comprehensive initiative for
children at risk, an
on-site perinatologist, radiology, and laboratory at
the East Main Street site.
Bridgeport Community Health Center
is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations.
