On January 1, 1999, in order to provide more efficient and effective service, United Community Services based in Norwich and the New London-based Family Service Association merged and became United Community & Family Services, Inc.

United Community Services (UCS) was established in 1877 as United Workers of Norwich. From that time forward, UCS consistently met the needs of children, families and the aging in Norwich and surrounding communities through its commitment to provide the highest quality health and human services.

Established in1913, Family Service Association provided high quality human services to individuals and families over their life span throughout southern New London County and southwestern Rhode Island.
